The Annual Report

Grinding a lens
I spent three hours this morning editing a 3000-word annual report of an NGO affiliated with the hospital.  The writing was 95% comprehensible but needed a good deal of polishing.  Following lunch and a nap the director and I walked through the hospital so that he could show me what additional photos he requires, specifically directing me on several occasions to shoot from this angle or that, and directing patients and staff where to stand, and how to move or pose.  There’s a room with several spiffy instruments that I haven’t seen used since I arrived.  The director says he’ll be downstairs with the patients tomorrow to insure the instruments are used and we get adequate photos.

I have also been asked to review the hospital’s website and make suggestions.  This was mentioned to me when I arrived but there was little we could do with the loss of internet service for about a week.  If anyone reading this has any suggestions, have a look here and send me an email or add a comment to this post.  Sunil will be most happy to have your feedback.

  1. I checked out the donation page, since it's one of the most important (let's be pragmatic). Clicking on the "Buy Now" link does nothing for me other than make that icon disappear. I'm using the latest version of FF on XP SP3. I also use a few restrictive plugins (ghostery, adblock, noscript), but I disable all of them on that page and the problem remains. I have no problem completing transactions using the third-party payment processes Google Play, Amazon Payments, or Paypal (all three can be used on a website that is not directly affiliated with them) with this browser, by the way.

Also, it is not clear even before clicking how the transaction works. Is it a credit card transaction directly with Kalinga Eye Hospital?

In any case, even if the link can be fixed, I strongly recommend adding a Paypal option if possible. Although I hate Paypal for reasons I won't get into, it's de rigueur these days for net donations, and being able to accept it can often make the difference between getting a donation from a random netizen and merely being passed by.

    My 2c.
